While a major developer has expressed interest in the Sampson Lands property to the north, the MLS listing for the large Royalwood property located just south of future Warde Avenue remains active.
The weedy farm fields owned by Qualico and Waterside in South Fraipont east of the railway tracks have been ploughed, the soil loosened. There was no planted crop to take off beforehand. Top soil is now ready for removal.
In contrast, Qualico’s Smith Farm fields in South Royalwood west of the tracks have not been ploughed.
Valley Fiber has hand trenched final mile optical cable to many South Royalwood homes. Techs have not installed their routers in the participating homes yet.
While the hard work they did to install the fiber lines during both cold and hot seasons this year is commendable, the question is, why did they install new fiber optic in Precinct K, a community about to be ripped apart by developers in a micro-second of geological time, especially surprising as Bell-MTS has already installed fiber optic on the street. The answer seems to be the almost $100 million that the federal government is paying Valley Fiber to hook up 7,875 homes in 50 Manitoba communities, including Winnipeg. Valley Fiber is being paid by Canada to hook up our houses. Whether we sign a service contract with them, or whether their delicate cable is severed in future road and sidewalk construction, is not a consideration. Valley Fiber already has their money.
