Creek Bend Park Cleanup
We have been told that summer weather finally arrives today. Skeptical Winnipeggers that we are, we will see. SOS Landcare and community volunteers will be verifying the promising weather reports in Creek Bend Park this morning from 10 am to 12 pm. Look for the seniors carrying grabbers and garbage bags. They will be hard to miss.
LANDSCAPING COMPANY DRAWING WATER FROM THE SEINE
Regarding the recent riverbank damage at the park, Councillor Chambers recently wrote us “Regarding water usage, that is governed by the Province. I have included a link to the authority. https://www.gov.mb.ca/sd/water/water-rights/water-use/index.html Note that this is regulated by the province.”
Fair enough, but the CBRA should note in turn that the City regulates its own contractors and can establish guidelines on how and where they can fill up their tankers before watering City boulevards and trees.
GARBAGE, DEBRIS AND NOXIOUS WEEDS
Councillor Chambers also followed-up after recent discussions with the CBRA.
“As the land (parking lot/construction lay down area and informal canoe launch) belongs to and is managed by the province, the City would not manage litter collection or noxious weeds at the site”. – [City Parks]. I will dialogue with Tyler Blashko, the MLA for the area, to see if we can work on an agreement to have this area maintained.”
This is, of course, exactly what the CBRA [and SOS] would like to see happen at Creek Bend Park, a joint management agreement.
TRANSIT PASSENGERS
You may have noticed that Winnipeg Transit’s portable toilet has taken a slight journey down the road. Councillor Markus Chambers has also been talking to the Transit powers that be. He reports, “We are working with transit to reduce/eliminate ride operators disembarking passengers at this location. I have spoken with the Director of Transit and addressed this problem with him. [The] only pushback he provided was the fact that drivers cannot always see someone who is left on the bus until they stop at this location where it [terminates]. Drivers have been made aware, so we will monitor accordingly. They plan to move the stop further to the loop and add a garbage bin that they will maintain.”
Excellent news. Our thanks to Councillor Chambers for the follow-up. Our village may be a small one, but we quite like it.
