In a surprise move Councillor Brian Mayes introduced a proposed Council motion on May 28th to twin the existing section of Warde Avenue in Bonavista. He showed photos of this motion on his Facebook yesterday.
“For debate at June [City] Council [June 25, 2026] –trying to get Warde Ave widening in Bonavista underway, after city staff simply released the developer [Genstar] from their obligation to build this. Large traffic (including new bus route) back-ups & more development slated south of Bonavista. [AKA Bonavista South]”

Before even officially approving the new Precinct K development, which he names Bonavista South, Brian Mayes has preemptively removed “Bonavista North’s” major objection to the proposed development, the infamous Warde Avenue traffic line-up. Construction of the Warde Avenue twinning could begin as early as next summer.
By comparison, already approved St. Anne’s Road twinning in the Creek Bend area is still not expected until the summer of 2028. Qualico evidently has some important friends at City Hall.
